Applied in multi storey steel structures, smoke extract ductwork, vertical shafts and even to bulkheads in sea vessels. Fire rating will either give a fire rating value to an area or apply a form of fire protection. They will enable these to meet the required fire codes. 

Passive fire protection can be obtained by using non-combustible board where heat transfer may occur. Products include mastics, boards, and mineral fibres.
